ARTEMIS / Maaigemdijk II
oilpxint, goldleaf, bronze on canvas83x133cm
This painting captures the moment just before Artemis (goddess of hunt and nature) catches Acteaon ( a marvelous hunter) spying on her bathing at the riverbank. As punishment she splashes Acteaon with water, turning his head into a deer's head and causing him being devoured by his own hounds.
The painting symbolizes the desire for the impossible.
The Maaigemdijk is a stretch of untouched Leie riverbank, close to the artist studio
